Alibaba’s slogan is: Make it easy to do business anywhere. A phrase often quoted by Alibaba people, including Teacher Ma, is: We serve tens of millions of small and medium-sized businesses. Combined, Alibaba’s business model is: helping small and medium-sized sellers do business. It can be seen that those doing business are generally small and medium-sized enterprises or individuals. The purpose of small and medium-sized enterprises and individuals doing business is to make money. Therefore, the essence of business is commercial activity aimed at making a profit.
A career is different from a business. Business aims at profit, while a career is often work that an individual or organization persistently engages in to realize self-value and gain social recognition. Because of the long-term driving force, careers can often be done very largely. However, small businesses are satisfied with the status quo or limited by various ceilings, and generally cannot grow big. Restaurants, breakfast shops, and electronics stores are all businesses, and it is difficult to make them big.
The time spent doing big things and small things is almost the same. What is more terrible is that time is a one-time consumable. We must concentrate on doing big things, doing big things, and doing big business. Take the catering industry as an example, pancake stall < small noodle shop < fast food restaurant < Chinese restaurant < Chinese hotel < KFC.
Connecting the Past and the Future
Since Alibaba’s Daniel Zhang founded the Double 11 Shopping Festival in 2009, it has been 12 years. In 2020, the Double 11 transaction volume was nearly 700 billion yuan. In twelve years, e-commerce has continued to grow and develop, from the initial Taobao, to Taobao, JD, to Alibaba launching Tmall, to Mobile Taobao, to group buying, to Pinduoduo, and then to live streaming e-commerce. From only being able to buy consumer goods and 3C online at the beginning, to now being able to trade real estate, cars, and agricultural products through e-commerce platforms. E-commerce has become an indispensable infrastructure.
Next week, we will welcome Black Friday. In previous years, the Black Friday transaction volume was the most important indicator for testing the Christmas national consumption power. The consumption power of the magical 2020 is worth paying attention to.
